Murder investigation into death of woman in Limerick

GardaĆ have begun a murder investigation into the fatal stabbing of a woman in her 20s at an apartment in Limerick City.

The body of the woman, who is understood to be Romanian, was discovered in the Riverdock apartment block on the Dock road at 1.30pm yesterday.

GardaĆ said the results of a post mortem examination of the woman’s body were not being disclosed for operational reasons.

They are pursuing a number of lines of inquiry into the motive for her death, including that she may have been targeted because she worked in the sex industry.

Officers were conducting extensive searches for a possible assault weapon around the buildings along O’Curry Street, adjacent to the Riverdock apartments where the assault occurred.
