GardaĆ are investigating the death of a woman in her 20s in Limerick city this afternoon.
She was found in an upstairs flat at the Riverdock block of apartments which are located on the corner of Dock Road and O’Curry Street in the docklands area of the city centre.
The apartment was preserved as a crime scene and gardaĆ carried out a technical examination inside the apartment tonight.
The Office of the State Pathologist has also been informed and a post-mortem is expected to take place tomorrow.
GardaĆ say the preliminary results of that examination will determine the course of their inquiries.
No arrests have been made in the investigation.
However, gardaĆ have visited a number of local premises and it is understood they took away a number of items for examination.
There are also unconfirmed reports that a man with a bloodstained and bandaged hand was seen in a shop on nearby Henry Street.
GardaĆ are appealing to witnesses to contact Henry Street Garda Station on 061 212 400, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any garda station.
In particular, they are appealing to anyone who has camera footage from the Dock Road and O’Curry Street areas of the city from 1pm to 2pm to make contact.
