
The man who died after he was attacked while attending a funeral in Tralee, Co Kerry has been named locally.
Thomas Dooley, aged 43, was a husband and a father from Hazelwood Drive in Killarney.
His wife, who was injured in the attack, is being treated in hospital.
The two had been attending a funeral at Rath Cemetery in Tralee when a fracas broke out.
Mr Dooley was stabbed and fatally injured. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
His wife was also stabbed and seriously injured and is being treated at University Hospital Kerry.
Later today, a post-mortem examination will be conducted on Mr Dooley’s body by State Pathologist Dr Sally Anne Collis.
GardaĆ have established an incident room at Tralee Garda Station, and are appealing for witnesses to contact them.
Given the number of people involved in the fracas, their investigation is likely to be complex and may be protracted.
